Funschool is open to everyone regardless of their homeschooling style or religious beliefs.
Funschool uses the negotiating power of gathering large groups of homeschoolers together for discounts and learning opportunities.
Funschool has just concluded its first fun-filled year of classes, workshops and field trips.
Children of all ages had the opportunity to create clay sculptures, improve their chess game, discover the secrets of magic performance, enhance their public speaking skills, learn more about the American Constitution, take group guitar lessons, explore Jack and Annie’s Magic Treehouse, and have many other fun learning adventures.
Based on the success of this past year, plans are in the works for an even more exciting Funschool in 2009-10, including incorporating the group as a not-for-profit organization.
Next year, Funschool will have two 12-week sessions with classes offered on Wednesday mornings (evening classes may be possible, depending on teacher availability):
• September 16 - December 16 (no classes the first Wednesday of October, November and December)
• January 13 - April 21 (no classes the first Wednesday of February, March and April).
Classes will once again be held at the Calvary Assembly of God Church, 5906 South Route 31, Crystal Lake, Illinois (Funschool rents space from the church and is not affiliated in anyway with the church).
Costs will depend on the number of participating families and the number hours classes are offered per week. Currently, they are projected to range from $25-$30 per family, per month.
Less Driving! - Instead of going to an art studio, a homeschool play date and a class in separate locations, do everything on one or two days and in one place!
Time to make Connections - Parents are required to stay on the premises while their children are attending classes. We've arranged for a large open space where parents can wait comfortably with siblings and get to know each other. This session there will be 30 minutes of "community time" between classes so students can play together and get to know each other. A great way to avoid cabin fever as well!
Teachers who GET IT! - Most of our teachers are homeschooling parents themselves. They understand why you've chosen to be responsible for your child's education and they are eager to share their passions with children who are choosing to learn more about a subject. Where the teacher does not have experience with homeschooling, every effort has been made to ensure that they have a teaching style and philosophy that will be respectful of home learners.
Satisfaction Guarantee- If your child is not happy with a class, your class cost is fully refundable (less materials fees) after the first class session. After that time, a prorated refund less materials fees will be given until the third class of the session. Students may also have the option of transferring to another class in lieu of a refund until the end of the third class session. Membership fees are refundable on a case by case basis. Field Trips
Funschool Co-op organizes field trip opportunities for homeschool families. In addition to the fun of attending an outing with other homeschool families, field trips often provide discounted admissions and tours reserved for groups and not available to the general public. A small processing fee is added to each field trip registration to offset fees and the time involved in organizing these opportunities.
